Woman Shave - A "Good-Enough" Guide

Ladies, it's time to really take a Good-Enough look at the latest recommended techniques for shaving. In fact let's call this The Good-Enough Guide to Shaving for Women.

We will explore everything we can about the art and science of shaving as it relates to a woman. There is so much information out there today on how to shave, what to shave with, what hairs to shave or not shave, when to shave, where to shave, shaving cream or no shaving cream and what to put on after you shave.

I think my head is beginning to spin already. But remember this is the Good-Enough Guide to Shaving for Women so nothing will be left out.

OK ladies, let's really get down to business here. We will cover all the basics, no matter how long it takes.

Good-Enough Rule #1:

No shaving until at least 20 minutes after waking up. (Give those little hairs time to stand at attention before getting whacked.)

It also helps to make sure you have your eyes wide open especially when shaving some of those more sensitive areas. (You know the ones I'm talking about here.)

Good-Enough Rule #2:

Pick your weapon of choice carefully, (oops, I really meant to say shaver). Well, we are going to be cutting something off aren't we?

(Gosh, maybe I really do have a problem with trying to stay serious for any length of time. Oh well, back to, Good-Enough, business.)

Whether you choose an electric shaver or regular razor, make sure the blades are sharp and if it's a power shaver, make sure it's fully charged.

Tearing at hair instead of cutting it off cleanly can be very hard on your skin. It can also cause ingrown hairs and could require repeated passes over the same area which can really cause shaver burn that results in red irritated skin.

Good-Enough Rule #3:

Use warm water, a good shaving cream or gel, or even a good perfume free body oil to soak the area you will be shaving for 3-4 minutes before you begin to shave. This will soften up those hairs. (As you know it's always easier to attack the enemy at their most vulnerable moments.)

Good-Enough Rule #4:

Don't apply pressure when shaving. Use one hand to pull your skin tight and shave in the direction of the hair growth. For example ladies, when shaving your legs, shave upward not downward. (You know it's not fair to attack your enemy from behind.)

Shaving against the growth can result in even more irritated skin and a greater possibility of ingrown hairs. (You can't really blame them from wanting to hide can you?)

Good-Enough Rule #5:

Don't be in a rush. Shave slowly and carefully. (The only casualties we want are the hairs passing under the blades.)

This is especially important when shaving those hard to reach pubic hairs. Remember, no blood please. (I don't know about you, but I'm very squeamish, especially when it's my own blood.)

Good-Enough Rule #6:

Shave the areas that you personally want shaved. The parts of a woman's body that are shaved should be parts she wants shaved for herself, nobody else. Don't feel pressure from anyone or any fashion trend to shave something you aren't comfortable shaving.

Women shaving truly is a matter of personal preference. There is no right or wrong answer to the question of what parts of the body should be shaved. Shave all of it off, part of it off or none of it off. You decide when and if it should be shaved. You also have a right to change your mind on this any time you choose.

(There, now I will get off my soapbox.)

Good-Enough Rule #7:

After you have finished shaving, splash cold water on the freshly shaved skin to tighten and close the pores and then apply talcum or baby powder to thoroughly dry the area. You can even use baby oil or another type of gentle moisturizer to soften and protect the skin.

Good-Enough Rule #8:

Finally, it's Good-Enough!

I promised that we wouldn't quit until everything, Good-Enough, was covered and we seem to have touched all the basics, Good-Enough for now. There really is so much more to add in order to make this a complete, Good-Enough, Shaving Guide for Women. Maybe it's a good idea to just leave the rest of the, Good-Enough, rules for another day.

And besides the perfect and easiest approach to shaving has already been invented and it has the simplest directions you could ever imagine.
